HELICAL PILES

Frequently Asked Questions

EXPLORE THE BENEFITS OF HELICAL PILES

If you’ve encountered poor soils while excavating for shallow footings – Ground Force Foundations can help!

This situation is encountered commonly during construction and we have the capability to provide quick, effective solutions in order to keep your schedule on track. Our team at Ground Force Foundations would work with your structural engineer to determine what the required loads are. With this information our team would propose a pile layout and if required, can assist in providing the necessary design changes to allow for the use of helical piles to transfer the structure load into denser soil. Upon completion of the helical pile installation a report is provided that certifies the necessary capacity has been achieved, ensuring your structure is properly supported.

A Helical Pile is a slender shaft deep foundation element designed to transfer structural loads into deeper, denser layers of soil.

Helical Piles are rotated into ground at low RPM using common hydraulic equipment. The installation torque is continuously monitored using calibrated equipment. See our project gallery for installation photos.

Helical piles can be designed to resist axial compression and tension loads. Generally speaking, lateral loads can be resisted by installing battered piles (on an angle) depending on the load requirements. Our team can evaluate the suitability of the use of helical piles given the existing soil conditions and loading requirements.

Typically the soil conditions and proposed loading requirements are needed in order to provide an accurate price. If there is no geotechnical investigation available assumptions will be made in order to provide pricing. The price for the supply and installation of helical piles will depend on factors such as location (how accessible is the area), required load and soil conditions (how deep will the piles need to be installed to achieve the necessary capacity). There are fixed costs associated such as mobilization and design fees – so the quantity of piles required will affect the price as well.
